■DOUBLE BALANCED MIXER (DBM) |
The Double Balanced Mixers (DBM) is an analog multiplier that has two input ports and one output port.
When one of the two input ports, the other input port, and the output port are assigned to an RF port, LO port, and IF port respectively, an RF signal of certain frequency and that of another frequency are input to the RF port and the LO port so that they are multiplied in the temporal axis, and the sum and difference of these frequency RF signals are outputted to the IF port as a result (Fig1).
Otherwise, when an ON-OFF signal and a bipolar signal are inputted into an IF port, the DBM works as both an RF switch and phase inverting circuit (Fig2).
Moreover, the DBM aiso works as an attenuation circuit, depending on the current to the IF port.
Based on the function described above, the DBM is used as basic functional device for RF signal processing.
